Best Round Dining Tables 2022

The best round dining tables have so many perks for discerning diners—arguably more than our favorite rectangular dining tables. “I love a round dining table as you are able to see and converse with all guests in a space,” says Augusta-based interior designer Lauren Robbins, founder and lead designer for Lauren Robbins Interiors. “In my opinion, a round dining table results in a more intimate dining experience.” Our top pick is AllModern’s Joaquin Round Dining Table, which offers three tabletop color options and several different wood finishes, but we’ve got plenty of other great ideas where that came from.

Best Round Dining Tables 2022

As Atlanta-based interior designer Andi Morse of Morse Design reminds us, round tables don’t have to seat a set number of guests. “Find a round table that is able to expand into an oval enlarging it for bigger gatherings,” Morse comments. “You get the best of both worlds.” The round shape is also ideal for spaces both small and large, making this type of table a winner in many different settings. To find the best options on the market, we chatted with several interior designers about what they look for in a quality piece, and we scoured hundreds of professional reviews and customer comments as well. Ahead, find a curated list of our favorite models on the market.

Dimensions: 39.5 x 39.5 x 29.75 inches | Assembly required: Yes | Material: Wood

This small round dining table measures just under 40 inches across and is designed to accommodate seating for four. This table is customizable, with three tabletop color options, as well as three leg color options. As such, you can opt for a natural wood finish or go modern with a black lacquered high-end look. The small round dining table might look rather simple but it’s because of this that it’s earned so many glowing reviews.

What the reviews say: “Gorgeous table, super high quality. It was very easy to build with two people! We were missing a couple screws in our initial shipment, but we let customer service know and they sent us a replacement in the next couple of days. Quick responsive service.”

Dimensions: 42 x 42 x 29.5 inches | Assembly required: Yes | Material: Wood

Not only is this dining table a highly-rated bargain, it’s versatile, too! “I love a round dining table that has a leaf option,” Robbins says. “This allows for the intimacy of a smaller table when you have fewer guests and gives you the flexibility to accommodate larger crowds at a moment's notice.” This 42-inch round dining table in particular is an even better option thanks to its pedestal base, which makes pulling up chairs easier. Plus, it’s sold in 15 colors, some of which are solid, while others are color-blocked.

What the reviews say: “This table is elegant and sturdy. The color is fabulous. The finish is superb. It’s easy to assemble. There were no dings in the finish. It was delivered on time. It’s beautiful!”

Dimensions: 47.25 x 47.25 x 29 inches | Assembly required: Yes | Material: Glass

This dining table looks more formal thanks to its ornate metal base accented with a spacious glass tabletop. Oftentimes the biggest fear with glass tables is that they’re easy to break, however, this round dining table is designed with a durable tempered glass slab that’s built to last.

What the reviews say: “I love this table! It's beautiful, sturdy and easy to assemble. It looks exactly how it is described.”

Dimensions: 47.25 x 47.25 x 29.5 inches | Assembly Required: Yes | Material: Wood

The best part about this wood round dining table is that it’s sold in various stains. Both the legs and tops are available in four stains, including walnut and white wash options, which you can coordinate or mix-and-match. While it’s sized for six, since it has legs, you may find that it’s more comfortable to push four chairs into the quadrants of the base. In any event, it’s a high-quality table with ample space for dining and conversation.

What the reviews say: “Quick and easy assembly—just remember that the central post that all the legs connect to does actually have a 'top' and a 'bottom' despite that not being called out explicitly in the assembly instructions. Table is quite attractive and has, what appears to be, a nice finish on it. Hard to beat for the price.”

Dimensions: 39.4 x 39.4 x 29.9 inches | Assembly required: Yes | Material: Wood

The beauty of an extendable dining table is that it can serve small spaces during everyday use while offering enough space in times of need, say, for a dinner party or holiday gathering. This popular round dining table is just under 40 inches across and, with the middle leaves, extends to 55 inches in length, making it a comfortable option for parties of six, though, you could definitely wiggle up a few extra chairs if you squeeze (and depending on their arms). Unlike some other extendable dining tables, the leaves nestle into the interior of the table, so you’ll never run the risk of misplacing one, either.

What the reviews say: “Gorgeous table! Easy to assemble. Solidly built. Looks way more expensive than purchase price. I would highly recommend this product.”

Dimensions: 60 x 60 x 29.5 inches | Assembly required: Yes | Material: Faux marble

According to Robbins, a 60- to 72-inch diameter is as large as you should go when shopping for a round dining table. “[That way] you can seat a large crowd and still feel connected to everyone around you,” she says. This specific large round dining table features a black tulip base and faux marble top, making it particularly photogenic. While it’s available in a spacious 60-inch design, which seats up to eight, it’s also sold in five other sizes, ranging from 28 to 54 inches. Beyond its size, this round dining table stands out for its scratch- and chip-resistant finish, which is especially important when working with marble (both faux and real).

What the reviews say: “There are many times where businesses lose sales to one of the larger online retail giants because consumers are not willing to give a brand that they are not familiar with a chance to earn their business. In this case, we are so happy that we gave Modern Digs a chance. Not only was the dining room table a great deal, but it was delivered without any issues whatsoever. The communication between customer service, transportation and myself was second to none.”

When shopping for a round dining table, Robbins says that the best options are those with pedestals. “This allows you to squeeze in extra guests without anyone having to awkwardly sit around a table leg,” she says.

That’s not to say that round dining tables with legs are out of the question but rather that if your goal is to fit as many people as possible at the table, a pedestal is best.

It varies based on the space. “A round dining table should have a wide enough diameter for the amount of chairs desired, while at the same time fitting the space appropriately,” says Los Angeles-based interior designer Jenn Feldman of Jenn Feldman Designs. “It's quite a math combination as you need to make sure that chairs can push in and out with ease and you can still navigate through the room ‘in the round.’” That means that even when all the hairs are pulled out and filled, there’s space to move about the room.

As a rule of thumb, Feldman says that standard tables come in 48, 60 and 72 inches — though 72-inch round dining tables can be notably more difficult to find and often require custom orders. “If you want extension pieces, then make sure your maximum size can work, but again it's about the sum of all the parts — buffet pieces in the room, the chair style and arm projection on the chair, as well as the and margin for pushing in and out should all factor into the equation.”

On the other end of the spectrum, if you’re in the market for a dining room table that can be squeezed into the family room or extra space in the kitchen, Morse says to consider a smaller size between 32 to 42 inches across.

Round dining tables are popular options for small spaces and square spaces, and in spaces where conversation and connection are prioritized. “I really just think it depends on the look and space of a room,” Morse says. “Round tables tend to give a more cozy vibe, but at the same time if you are entertaining large crowds on a regular basis they may not be the best for seating.”
